Like an addiction.....
Love at first sight and puppy love is simply phenylethylamine intoxication. It is released in the brain whenever the follower sees his/her crush or hold his/her hands. A foolish chemical that’s plentiful in chocolates (which is the reason why giving of chocolates has become a common practice during valentines day). This intoxication causes palpitation of the heart, blushing, etc. Blame this stupid hormone why people get infatuated, hahaha and why the feeling gets worse day after day. One ends up day dreaming, can’t sleep and loses his/her appetite. OMG!!!
Oxytoxin is the hug hormone. Once released, this toxin will encourage cuddling—which causes one to flirt, romantic and have sexual thoughts. Then this series of events will trigger dopamine release (that makes us blaze and feel good and doubly irrational!), and norepinephrine (that stimulates the production of adrenalin, the emergency hormone, remember?). It speeds up the sugar metabolism that gives more energy!! For some, the intoxication can be short-lived but for those who are consenting addicts, intoxication can last up to 6 years! Until it stabilized the endorphins and we call it true and everlasting love. Ah, the best form of addiction and intoxication.
